First Do No Harm: Suggestions Regarding Respectful Autism Language - Dwyer and colleagues (2022) speak to potentially problematic language in reference to autism, and suggest alternatives. For example, shifting from the use of 'autism spectrum disorder' to 'autism', to avoid the negative connotation of the traditional term 'disorder'.
