Participants Needed - Study on Speech Regulation in Adults with ADHD
About the study:
We are currently recruiting participants for a new research study examining how individuals with ADHD use the sound of their voice to regulate their speech. We are looking for 100 volunteers, aged 16–60, with a formal diagnosis of Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
Participants must:
Be native speakers of North American EnglishBe right-handed
Have no history of hearing, language, or speech disorders
Have no tonal language speaking experience
What’s involved:
This in-person study takes place at Wilfrid Laurier University’s Waterloo Campus and takes approximately 2 hours to complete.Participants will:
Wear a sensor cap while producing vocal sounds
Complete a short computer task
Fill out a set of questionnaires
Compensation:
Participants will receive $35 for their time.If you’re interested or would like more information, please contact us at: cognisantlab@gmail.com

Participate in Research examining Auditory Processing in Children
Looking for Participants: Help Us Learn How Kids’ Brains Understand Sound and Develop Language!

We’re inviting children between the ages of 5 to 14, both autistic and non-autistic, to take part in a research study at Wilfrid Laurier University. This study looks at how the brain processes sound (called auditory evoked potentials) and how this relates to language skills.
The study involves a passive listening activity while watching some fun videos and some simple language tasks and a non-invasive EEG recording (a cap with small damp sponges that allows signals to be read from the surface of the scalp). Some participants might feel a bit claustrophobic inside the sound booth during the EEG recording (which lasts about 5 minutes). To help with this, breaks will be given as often as needed. As part of the study, we'll also do a quick hearing check using a small, soft tip that gently goes in your ear to see how well your inner ear (the cochlea) is working.
Participation will take around 2 to 3 hours, and can be divided in two sessions if required and the second session can take place in lab, Zoom or participant house. Participants will receive $10 for completion of the online questionnaire, $20 for attending the university for the hearing screening and EEG testing, and $20 for the speech and language testing.
We hope this research will help us better understand how kids learn to communicate and how to better support them! If you're interested or want to learn more, please reach out to cognisantlab@gmail.com
WHO: Autistic and neurotypical children (5-14). Approximately 300 children will be recruited in Southern Ontario.
ELIGILIBITY: Children should not have any hearing impairments and/or require the use of hearing devices and should not have any developmental delays other than autism.
WHEN: Our flexible availability will allow us to accommodate your schedule. This study takes approximately 2-3 hours.
WHERE: Wilfrid Laurier University Waterloo Campus (75 University Ave West, Waterloo).
WHY: Your child’s participation is important to learning about how sound processing influences the development of speech and language in both autistic and non-autistic children. As a thank you for your time and effort, you will receive up to $50 for participation.

Participants Needed - Education for Autistic Post-secondary Students in Canadian Universities
About the study:
We are looking for autistic adults to share their experiences in post-secondary educational institutions in Canada. As part of this study you will complete three surveys (TBQ-1, TBQ-2, and TBQ-3) at your own pace, each taking about an hour, and receive a $25 online gift card for each survey completed. The surveys will explore your experiences with belonging, strengths, autistic traits, executive functioning, and more, including intersectional experiences for BIPOC and 2SLGBTQIA+ students.
Who can participate?
If you are interested, 18+ years of age, enrolled in post-secondary education in Canada for a minimum of 6 months, diagnosed with autism (either self-diagnosed or formally), and agree to participate you will be asked to fill out surveys looking at your experiences in college/university.
Time and compensation:
In total, the research experience will take between 3 hours, each survey is approximately an hour in length. You will be compensated with a $25 gift card for your time after each survey is completed (up to 3 gift cards). Please note that this research is done in collaboration with the Aiden Lab at the University of Alberta. Online surveys are done through the University of Alberta Qualtrics, rather than Wilfrid Laurier's
